Security Systems Discovery & Readiness Assessment – Municipal Facilities

Project Overview
Our team, in partnership with another specialized security consulting firm, conducted a comprehensive security systems discovery and assessment for a municipal client with multiple public facilities. The project aimed to provide a detailed understanding of the existing security infrastructure, including CCTV, access control, intrusion detection, and emergency duress systems across a broad range of site types.

Scope of Work
Our team completed assessments at 25 of the client’s 51 facilities, which included arenas, community centres, pools, operations buildings, fire stations, golf courses, and specialty facilities such as an animal shelter. The project’s key objectives were:

  • Identifying all devices associated with the client’s security systems.
  • Mapping the physical location of each device on as-built drawings for each facility.
  • Evaluating whether existing devices and infrastructure were compatible with a planned security system upgrade.

Methodology

  1. Collaborative Site Surveys: Both consulting teams conducted on-site assessments to identify all installed security devices, documenting device type, location, and connectivity.
  2. Joint System Inventory: A consolidated inventory of CCTV cameras, access control readers, intrusion detection sensors, and emergency duress stations was developed, integrating insights from both teams.
  3. As-Built Documentation: All devices were plotted on facility-specific as-built drawings, providing a clear visual reference of deployed systems.
  4. Compatibility Assessment: The teams collaboratively reviewed the existing devices and network infrastructure to assess compatibility with the client’s planned system upgrade, considering device models, connectivity standards, and integration potential.

Outcomes

  • A comprehensive inventory of security devices across 25 facilities.
  • Updated as-built drawings showing accurate device locations for each site.
  • An evaluation of which devices and infrastructure could be retained or required upgrades for the new system.
  • Recommendations to support a streamlined deployment of the new security system while minimizing operational disruptions.
